I have had it all- split rail, vinyl, smooth wire, (Barbed wire back in the day- egads!)...and this is the BEST horse fencing material! Split rails age and the rails fall, or sag. Vinyl cracks with the sun. The PolyPro is UV coated wire that is more visible to animals & people alike, as well as much more attractive. A simple crank of the ratchet once a year is the only maintenance! They have significantly improved the quality of the ratchet, though I would recommend combining with the one-way anchor vise and quick end to loop the wire around the post so as to not have to rely on a single screw to hold up your whole length of fence!! (these are the things I loose sleep about at night!) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT
